Badminton resembles other racquet sports in that it necessitates quick wrist and arm motions. The feathered shuttlecock has a higher aerodynamic drag than a ball and swings differently.

A simplified version of badminton regulations is provided here to help you get acquainted with the game.

Preparation and Serving

The game begins with a coin toss. One participant announces ‘Head’ or ‘Tail’ after the referee tosses the coin. The player or team who wins the toss can pick which side of the court they want to play on and if they wish to serve or receive first. If a player decides their favored side of the court, the opponent player or team has the option of doing or receiving first, and vice versa.

The initial serve is made from the right-hand service court, which is done diagonally. The server should hit its underarm while the shuttle is at 1.15m. The server must not cross any lines and serve from the proper service court. The shuttle must be performed again if it touches the net and does not cross it after the service. If the server makes a mistake during serving, the opponent is given a chance to serve.

Boundary

The receiving player receives the shuttlecock from the correct service court diagonally opposite the server’s court and returns it to begin the rally. After returning the serve, players are free to wander around their courtside.

When a player shoots the shuttle outside the court limits or misses returning it from their side, the opponent receives a point, and the rally is over.

Players switch ends after a game, and players’ beat ends in a decisive match when one player or pair scores 8 (men) or 6 (women) points.

Singles’ serving guidelines

The server alternates between serving from the right and left sides of the service courts. When the service is lost, the opponent is allowed to play.

If the players have not scored any points or have an even number of issues, they serve from the right side of the service court to the opponent’s right side.

If the players have an odd number of points, they will serve from the left side of the court to the opponent’s left side.

Doubles serving guidelines

Each player on each team has two chances to serve. A team’s members take turns serving. The opposing team gets an opportunity to do after dropping two serves, and they begin on the right side of the court.

At the start of the game, the serving team has just one chance to serve.

In Doubles, the pair that served in the preceding rally and is now on the receiving end does not switch sides. When a player wins a rally and is operating, they switch sides.

If the players have not scored any points or have an even number of issues, they serve from the right side of the service court to the opponent’s right side.

If the players have an odd number of points, they will serve from the left side of the court to the opponent’s left side.
